About Classic Bronze

Susan Galloway and Camille Ream, with the support of John Hooper, started Classic Bronze in 2007 with a 5 octave team and half of a 3 octave team at Concordia University. Susan and Camille had attended several Distinctly Bronze events in the US and found it stimulating and challenging. They enjoyed meeting fellow ringers and working with conductors who had very high expectations and who pushed them to be better than they thought they could be.
Since no such event existed in Canada, they decided to create one and so Classic Bronze was born.

The inaugural committee, which later became the Classic Bronze Handbell Ringers Association, got the event off to a flying start. Over the years, it was held in several venues before settling in at St. Albert United Church.

John Hooper suggested adding a Copper (less difficult) path to the event to offer opportunities for more ringers. That became a reality in 2017 and it has proven quite popular.

Space limitations capped the event at 3 teams for Bronze and two for Copper.

In 2023, Susan and Camille retired and the event moved from St Albert to Calgary with a new board of organizers very excited to take an already epic event and expand it even further.

Calgary will host Classic Bronze in August of 2025 and for the first time, will include a third path, Accent, to provide opportunities to even more ringers.
